3rd September: Learning to Pause - Lessons from a Beach in Crete

I've never been much of a reader and since university I have found it difficult to prioritize learning. Topics of self development have been few and far between as I focused on performing and to a high level at all times. I since realize that this also requires a commitment to pausing, and learning.

As I lay on a beach in Crete writing this, I realize that I actually enjoy reading, and learning, and more specifically, writing. I seem to write best when I'm on a plane. Maybe it's the lack of wifi and the hours of staring at a headrest, but nevertheless all of my best work seems to happen above 30,000ft.
This week away however was supposed to be a break. A chance to explore Greece and see more of the world together. It became quickly evident that we are now shit at switching off and our mind constantly races. Whilst I still nap a lot, I find myself thinking more and doing less.

My latest read (My personal MBA) has been a refreshing lesson in business management as whilst I studied it at university, operations management and business ownership are very different entities.
Learning about tax and payroll once seemed boring but now feels like development. Marketing and sales tips I once ignored are now relevant and meaningful. I still need structure and a higher level of commitment, but Adelina is ready to step in and take on more responsibilities so I can give it a go.
Whats clear is that whilst we continue to learn, failure in small business is always only round the corner. Its not something we fear though as we know it will take multiple iterations for the business to become sustainable. Until then, I'll keep learning and keep trying. Whats the worst that can happen.
