No, it’s not another Christmas party… it’s a Christmas party for a running club. Yes, you read that right. When I was asked to photograph at Space—the new meeting hub in the center of Wolverhampton (aka the old Express & Star building)—my first thought was: “Photograph a bunch of sweaty runners getting drunk? Terrible idea.

But then Tom sweet-talked me into it, as he always does, and I found myself there at 7 PM, watching this community of runners show up in droves—70 to 80 people strong. Honestly, I’m still not sure if they run for the fitness… or to practice running to the bar. Either way, it’s a group built on sport, friendship, and a shared love of socializing.
Photographing this Christmas party was a joy. Seeing people I normally spot looking a little ropey on a Wednesday night suddenly dressed up in posh frocks and suits was surreal. And just putting it out there—I was definitely the best-dressed photographer there, camera and flash in hand, ready to capture it all.

I documented arrivals, awards, raffles, and random hilarious moments as the night unfolded. Stage photos? Hate them. I much prefer people laughing, enjoying themselves, and not pretending to stare at a camera. Plus, the lighting was a nightmare. The flash wasn’t bouncing, shadows were everywhere—it was a proper “oh no” situation. Yet somehow, the photos turned out amazing… and 90% of the people don’t even remember arriving.
Space Wolverhampton itself is incredible—a fresh hub for networking, meeting friends, and being part of a community in the heart of the city. Molly and her team were amazing, and I cannot wait to do it all again in 2026.
